Poland has pursued a policy of economic liberalization since 1990 and today stands out as a success story among transition economies. It is the only country in the European Union to maintain positive GDP growth through the 2008-2009 economic downturn. GDP per capita is still much below the EU average, but is similar to that of the three Baltic states. Since 2004, EU membership and access to EU structural funds have provided a major boost to the economy.

I have been teaching Polish for foreigners for over 30 years. My students range from lawyers, economists, journalists and diplomats to students and candidates for Polish universities, as well as those who want or need to learn one of the most difficult languages in the world, Polish.
I hold a Master's Degree in Philology from the University of Warsaw (specializing in Bengali), and I have long-term practical training in teaching Polish as a foreign language at all levels.
First and foremost, I don’t believe that there is one “universal” method for teaching Polish. Some students are more auditory, some visual. Some both. Some learn better in individual courses, some in groups. My ultimate task is to assess the capabilities and expectations of each student or group and create a course tailored to meet those needs.
Lessons take place either in a calm home environment or I will travel to your location – either work or home.
Learning Polish takes time, dedication and patience. Complicated grammar and pronunciation combined with difficult vocabulary can be a big turn-off if not handled properly. My goal is to make grammar an intellectually interesting challenge and to make difficult words not-so-difficult. In other words, I strive to bring order to the chaos that the Polish language can present.
I don’t promise miracles. All of those ads promising “instant results” and “effortless learning” are just publicity tricks. However, I can promise that I will work hard for you, and I expect the same in return.

As soon as my husband was posted to Poland people immediately started to tell me how lucky I was and ...how difficult it would be to learn the language. A short time after arriving in Warsaw I decided to give it a try....
I must admit that since the beginning I was very much impressed by Joanna's professional skills and dedication. Her knowledge of the language, her communication skills and her friendly and outgoing personality (not to mention her delicious home made cookies) made me look forward to our lessons. It is not easy to learn a language from scratch, but with her assistance and constant support and encouragement I manage to keep going.
Lucinda Simas Magalhães, Spouse of the Brazilian Ambassador to Poland
Joanna Sklodowska is a wonderful, warm teacher who pulls together language, grammar, and culture to provide a complete and rewarding learning experience, whether one is a beginner or advanced.
Joe Bell, Partner at Hogan Lovells
Grammatically correct, but idiomatic language taught? Check.
Lessons tailored to meet the student’s learning style? Of course.
Lesson times to meet a busy working schedule? No problem.
Warm, fun learning experience? Absolutely.
My list of praise for Joanna Skłodowska and her teaching style could go on and on. When I arrived in Poland in 1994, I only had a smattering of self-taught Polish to my name. Over the course of three years, Joanna came up with lesson ideas that brought me to fluency in Polish, by building on my interests and preferred learning style. Joanno, dziękuję Ci bardzo!
Judith Gliniecki

Poland has pursued a policy of economic liberalization since 1990 and today stands out as a success story among transition economies. It is the only country in the European Union to maintain positive GDP growth through the 2008-2009 economic downturn. GDP per capita is still much below the EU average, but is similar to that of the three Baltic states. Since 2004, EU membership and access to EU structural funds have provided a major boost to the economy.
